I tried Thunderbird as an email client. An email client is the software you use to send, receive, and manage emails. I kept my existing email address; I just updated the tool I used to manage my emails. My opinion is the aesthetic is nice, the features are useful, and the calendar is up my alley. Additional features like connecting to chat, IRC, XMPP, Matrix, Newsgroups, RSS feeds were also available; however, I personally don’t use those. These are the 3 reasons I think the Thunderbird app is choice:

A feature I appreciate is the unified inbox. It displays my inbox from multiple email accounts into 1 thread. (nod of approval) A thing of note: Thunderbird removes remote content by default. This means that content which is not included in the email itself and must be downloaded, such as images for example, are blocked. According to my research (aka internet search) this remote content can be used to mark when you open the email and even track information about you. (perverts!)

Thunderbird offers a calendar that can be used across multiple email accounts. Over time, I had different mobile phones using different operating systems and the calendar was a pain point. They both had different default calendar interfaces. Syncing the calendars was possible but tedious, especially when my phone is a different OS from my laptop. It felt like I constantly had to jump back and forth between different tools. (gah!, nah fam!) Now it’s more unified.

The ease of use and clean aesthetic made it a joy for me to use. Additionally, as I perused the app, I came across some features that piqued my interest: connecting to chat, IRC, XMPP, Matrix, Newsgroups, RSS feeds. Unfortunately, I don’t use these features, but they seemed useful the more I read about them. The aesthetic makes it feels like my own command center!

I covered 3 points on why I think Thunderbird is a proper bird. Its unified Inbox, calendar, and clean aesthetics make it a choice app. Thank you for reading this far! If you enjoyed this content, feel free to share.
