Is the current form of marketing abuse or violence?

As I was researching how to market to developers, since I believe I’m starting to be in that space, I came across an article. According to this source developers “hate marketing”, I don’t necessarily disagree with some of these points, however, a point I did disagree with was they hate it to an “unreasonable” degree.

I’ll explain why I disagree. Furthering the reading, mention of developers valuing “honesty”, “technical accuracy”, “detailed documentation” etc. to me that would imply a reasonable individual or follows logic; therefore the term “unreasonable” contradicts in my mind that type of person. Who here who is not making money enjoys marketing plastered everywhere?

Now, I cross reference with the sentiment of some lemmy users a (a news aggregator) where they discussed how they were protecting their well-being by trying to restrict themselves from trash content provided from the internet, the brain acting as a sort of gateway into themselves and their well-being. I agree with the sentiment; if you allow garbage into your life, it will distort your perspective of reality. Consuming garbage content too much and seeing it day in and day out normalizes it. What we allow into our minds should not be garbage, but rather quality content; 'garbage in, garbage out’.

So keeping the brain/mind as a sanctuary away from intrusion should be in everyone’s best interest.
As a thought experiment if one watches delightful content would it improve your mood or deteriorate your mood? On the opposite side, if one consumed unsavory content would your mood improve or deteriorate? Secondary, does the mood you’re in, cascade into other parts of your life? If you are happy, would it reflect in your surroundings and onto others? On the flippity-flip if you are upset would it reflect to your surroundings? I’d argue yes it would. So that gives me reason to believe one should protect what they consume with enriching content and not consume garbage content. I wouldn’t argue to remain ignorant but rather remain vigilant. I continue my researching journey by more technically defining what violence is. I searched the first definition and I understood it as physical force.

I then cross referenced the definition of violence with another source.

(https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/violence)(accessed 7-26-2025)

I further cross referenced the definition with another source or rather a search term. “is violence only physical”

(duckduckgo)(accessed 7-26-2025)

Searches of domestic violence appeared with titles including more than just physical but rather mental, even financial, so violence also has the possibility to be abstracted into more than just physical violence. Again, I further cross referenced this with articles mentioning negative effects of social media. Additionally, I also came across the definition of marketing, what I learned is that another word for it is propaganda. That word kinda scares me. What am I being nudged to do? Is it in my best interest or in my communities best interest? And to make this ramble even ramblier There must be a distinct difference from a small marketing “Best Pies in town ” in contrast with a financed psychological; for lack of a better word “warfare”? I’m just chilling; leave us/me out of it. I do not consent. I would like to also talk about consent from other forms aside from rape but rather digitally or mentally?

That might be a topic for a different post, if you’re interested in this content check back from time to time or message me? Also keep in mind I’m just a dweeb from the internet I make mistakes so If you see a mistake let me know, I’ll see what I can do. With that being said I’m a bit conflicted as I’d like for my projects to gain traction and hopefully any sort of income but some of those talking points are quite foul. Any insight from future readers would be quite appreciated.
