I chose this blog title because it rhymes! I will, however, be talking (writing) about clouds or more so cloud computing. This day marks a noticeable improvement to my project. I’ll explain.
As you may know, I started this blog as a skills improvement/ skills check. My abilities have improved dramatically in multiple facets and my knowledge has also improved. With that being said, I am now an expert (joke). All kidding aside, I have now published multiple sites, polished them, and am quite proud of their direction and design. In order to host a website, a physical device (server) holding the website must be on at all times during the duration of its use. You can do this yourself, but it requires a computer to be powered on and connected to the internet at all times. Plus, your ISP might have something to say about your home server setup. It’s potentially doable, but can be finicky as households can have outages, floods, fires, earthquakes -- essentially device-ruining events. A cloud is for the most part the same, but with bandwidth improvements, speed, cooling, and hardware maintenance – essentially: more specialized in doing server stuff.
I originally started with a different cloud hosting service than the one I use currently, and I stuck with it for longer than I should have because migrating to a new server can be time consuming. I realized that I was sticking with the current option only because it was what I started with, not necessarily what’s best for me. One thing I knew I would be unable to compromise on is clear and upfront pricing, so that I know exactly what I’ll be paying for hosting each month.
After a lot of research, I decided to try Hetzner.
The improvements I saw were cool:
So I’ve been quite pleased. I’ve been so pleased that I joined their referral program. This is an achievement for me as I have not been involved in a referral program before.
From my perspective reviews are a way to experience something remotely -- by way of somebody else whose judgment you trust. If you don’t trust somebody’s judgment then you would be inclined to not follow their advice. If you’re new to this blog/ humble project, hopefully I can gain your trust as a fellow person trying to find good solutions in a hectic world. And if you are more experienced, then I’d like to hear your opinion regarding cloud services and their quality of life features.
